A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost…

by

A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost…share a house in Bristol.

Starts off like a joke but it gets so much better! It’s a six part series that’s just finished screening on the ABC in Australia. Hopefully it will be repeated shortly, before the second series airs. The library doesn’t have the series yet but I’m sure we will soon…so keep your eyes open.

Being Human follows three housemates as they do their best to live their lives as normally as possible, despite their strange and dark secrets. They just want to BE HUMAN, BE NORMAL, just like you and me.

George (the werewolf) battles with his double identity as a mild-mannered and geeky hospital porter who, for one night a month, (during a full moon, of course) is transformed into a flesh-hungry werewolf. He tries to be normal by avoiding human flesh and seeking out poor, defenseless animals. Mitchell is described as a confident vampire, trying to go cold-turkey from his bloodsucking urges. (As you can imagine this proves to be very difficult) The third member of the household is Annie, a lovely tea making ghost who’s not quite sure why or how she died.

Being Human is a great series that leaves you wanting more. I started watching it from the fourth episode and then borrowed the rest on DVD from a friend. I hope you can track it down, it’s really very good!

P.S. I know I should have posted this like 8 weeks ago.

P.S.S. If only someone else had posted about Being Human when it first aired, then I wouldn’t have missed the first episodes!

Melli’s right: it really is fantastic. Linda (waves – Hi!) caught onto this at week 3, and so we caught most of it. Apparently the author was approached to do a series about a person with agraphobia, a recovering drug addict and a (manic-depressive guy? Not sure.) sharing a flat, and thought it was the most boring thing possible, so he twisted it a bit and it came out as a vampirwe who is trying to be on the wagon, a werewolf who is trying to keep the two halves of his life separate, and a ghost, who has self-esteem issues and is trying to find ways to “leave her house” and be seen.
