Confessions of a Shopaholic

You want to see the chick flick, but have you read the book?

This weekend I am thinking about going to watch the new movie Confessions of a Shopaholic. This movie is based on a book written by Sophie Kinsella (which is the first book in the Shopaholic series). I have read most of the Shopaholic books and have loved every one. They have a happy-go lucky feel and are easy to read. The book Confessions of a Shopaholic is based around the character Rebecca Bloomwood. Beccy always gets into trouble because of her spending addiction. You can’t help but love her character as she can justify any purchase (and who can’t relate to that). Unfortunately, years of saying “yes” has found Becky in a shopping bag full of debt…

Aussie actress Isla Fisher plays the roll of Rebecca Bloomwood in the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic. From the previews, I’m not sure whether the movie will do the book justice. Post if you have seen the movie or read the books and tell me what you thought.

The Shopaholic books include:

  • Confessions of a Shopaholic
  • Shopaholic takes Manhattan/Shopaholc abroad (alternative title)
  • Shopaholic ties the knot
  • Shopaholic and sister
  • Shopaholic and baby

I scored free tickets to the premier last Wednesday night, and admittedly I probably wouldn’t have gone to see it otherwise… But I liked it! It was light, and funny (though mildly cringeworthy throughout!) and Isla was great as Rebecca. I can’t really say if it’s true to the feel of the books having not read them, but I don’t think it will be a disappointment for those who have.
