Rock on the 80s

by

I went to a really good concert recently to see John Mellencamp at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Now I don’t expect too many of you guys to recognise him, he’s American and was really big in the mid 80s. I went along to keep my mate company thinking I wouldn’t know much of his music but was surprised how many tunes I recognised. If you like Bruce Springsteen, who was also huge around the same era, you’ll probably like Mellencamp too.

Try his 1990 album Scarecrow which is classic.

An added bonus was Sheryl Crow supporting! She sounded excellent too. I’d forgotten how many hits she’s had and it was good to hear one of my favourites, “Strong Enough”. I didn’t realise she had a new album out this year called Detours. Check it out, it has both her well know ballad style and some funkier stuff too.

If you’re looking for the latest gigs, pick up a free copy of Rave magazine at the library. It’s got the play lists for Good Vibrations, V, Big Day Out and the rest. Festival season here we come!
