Woohoo! Two new ‘based on the book’ movies coming out – Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Cirque du Freak: the vampire’s assistant.
Basically, here’s the deal:
1. Percy Jackson finds himself hip deep in trouble when the Gods of Ancient Greece start interfering with the world. Because it turns out that Percy is not quite an average kid, and he’s a prime suspect in the theft of Zeus’ lightning bolt.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief opens in cinemas this week.
It’s based on the first in a great series of five books by Rick Riordan – you can borrow the Percy Jackson books at the library.
2. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but despite being warned away, Darren Shan just can’t help being intrigued by the sinister carnival that comes to his town – the Cirque du Freak. But this is not an ordinary show, and some of the carnies are anything but natural. Soon, Darren is contemplating a whole new career….
We have to wait another month for Cirque de Freak: the vampire’s assistant to come to cinemas.
There are 12 books in the Saga of Darren Shan – broken up into four sets of trilogies. That sounds like a lot, but they are a great, quick read. So speedy, in fact, that the movie is based on the whole first trilogy:Cirque du Freak, The vampire’s assistant and Tunnels of blood.
I’m looking forward to them both, but I’m really keen to see Madame Octa, the giant tarantula in Cirque du Freak in all her arachnid glory on the big screen.
